<h3 id="toc-1-high-protein-diet">1. High Protein Diet</h3>
<p>Popular high protein diets include Atkins, Sugar Busters, Zone, and Protein Power diets. These diets are harmful for many reasons. First, high protein diets lack essential nutrients that your body needs. They are high in foods like meat, eggs, and cheese, which are all high in saturated fat and cholesterol and low in fiber, vitamins, and minerals. They are low in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, which are high in unsaturated fat, fiber, vitamins, and minerals that your body needs.</p>
<h3 id="toc-2-cabbage-soup-diet">2. Cabbage Soup Diet</h3>
<p>This diet consists of eating soup made up of cabbage, tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, celery, carrots, onion soup mix, and other vegetables. The cabbage soup diet claims that by eating nothing but cabbage soup for one week, you will lose from ten to fifteen pounds. While eating nothing but cabbage soup for a week may result in significant weight loss, it is nothing more than water weight loss. It is physically impossible for your body to lose ten to fifteen pounds of fat in one week. Cabbage soup acts as a diuretic, which causes you to lose previously retained water.</p>
<h3 id="toc-3-no-fat-diet">3. No Fat Diet</h3>
<p>Completely fat free diets are bad for you. Dietary fat intake is necessary for the proper absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, such as vitamins A, D, E, and K. Additionally, essential fatty acids like fish and plant oils are essential for good health. Certain types of fat are good for your body. Polyunsaturated and monounsaturated are healthy fats that actually help lower cholesterol, reduce inflammation, increase heart strength, and soften skin and hair. In fact, most people who try to eliminate fat from their diet actually gain weight and decline in health.</p>
<h3 id="toc-4-detoxifying-diet">4. Detoxifying Diet</h3>
<p>Detoxifying and/or cleansing diets are extremely popular. They claim that are bodies are full of impurities that must be expelled in order for optimal health and weight loss. However, most detoxifying diets are nothing more than laxatives in disguise. These diets are very harmful on your body due to the lack of adequate nutrition and dehydration.</p>
<h3 id="toc-5-grapefruit-diet">5. Grapefruit Diet</h3>
<p>Following the grapefruit diet requires you to eat grapefruit before each meal and in between meals as a snack. Supposedly, grapefruit contains a certain chemical that boosts metabolism, fills you up, and promotes weight loss. All of these claims are false. Yes, grapefruit is healthy and good for you, but no, it is not a magical weight loss solution.</p>

They give you more nutritional bang for the buck, raise your metabolism, or burn more calories to digest than consumed.</p>
<p>A well-rounded, healthy diet shouldn&#8217;t focus on just a few foods. However, to lose fat, the addition of some of these superfoods may help you eat more and lose weight safely. Consider taking them as snacks or sides to main meals.<span id="more-823"></span></p>
<p><strong>1. Plain popcorn</strong>. Popcorn popped without cooking oil and served without butter is a good snack that provides necessary fiber in your diet. It&#8217;s better than high calorie, high fat snacks like potato chips.</p>
<p><strong>2. Potatoes.</strong> Potatoes, though starchy, can be a good addition to the diet. They provide some fiber and fill you up. To get the benefit, don&#8217;t cook them in oil or add butter to them. Steam them and top them with mustard, cottage cheese or nonfat yogurt</p>
<p><strong>3. Hot peppers</strong>. Peppers are low in calories and add flavor to a meal. Reports say they may even raise your metabolism for a while after eating them. They are a negative calorie food, so eat them freely.</p>
<p><strong>4. Oatmeal.</strong> If all of the talk about oatmeal is true, it is a good superfood for the circulatory system and for lowering cholesterol. The best thing is, it is filling and keeps you satisfied for hours. Additionally, it is high in fiber, so not all of the calories are absorbed.</p>
<p><strong>5. Yogurt.</strong> For the few calories it has, yogurt provides a good amount of nutrition. To get the most out of it, eat yogurt that has live cultures and no added sugar. Use it as a replacement for sour cream and mayonnaise, or make salad dressing out of it. It is a high protein food, especially Greek yogurt.</p>
<p><strong>6. The cabbage family.</strong> Cabbage is a negative calorie food that provides antioxidants and fiber. It&#8217;s a good addition to soups and salads. In the same family are broccoli and cauliflower, which make great raw snacks.</p>
<p><strong>7. Grapefruit.</strong> Grapefruit provides vitamin C. It is a negative calorie food. Other fruits that are negative calorie foods include papayas and cranberries.</p>
<p><strong>8. Chicken.</strong> Chicken is high in protein, and if eaten without the skin, low in fat and calories. It is a perfect complement to salads, stir-fries, soups and casseroles.</p>
<p><strong>9. Avocado.</strong> Though avocado is a bit higher in calories than some superfoods, it is an excellent trade off. The high fiber takes care of some of the calories, but the most important thing is the good oils it provides for a healthy diet.</p>
<p><strong>10. Olive oil.</strong> Another great food that is necessary for the body, olive oil provides the good oils that fight bad cholesterol and heart disease. Use it in salad dressing and for stir-fry.</p>
<p>This is not a complete list of the perfect superfoods, but it is a good start. Make these foods a part of your diet and use them to replace some of the unhealthy foods you are eating. They should help you lose fat and feel better each day.</p>

<div class='embaArticle' style='display:inline'><p><img class="alignright size-full wp-image-814" title="fatty-acids" src="http://chickandfit.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/fatty-acids.jpg" alt="" width="270" height="302" />In life, this is generally my guiding principle, which is ‘if it existed before man, then it is necessary for life’! this means one thing, that the proponents of ‘no fat diet’ are simply least in my reading list.</p>
<p>In fact, I dare say that they need to be sued because they endanger the life of others by teaching the wrong thing. Whether you agree with me or not, its matter of how much facts on the human body’s fat needs you have.<span id="more-813"></span></p>

<p>In this post, we are reviewing the role of certain fats that we call essential fatty acids and why you should not miss them in your diet. We are also discussing the impact of not eating these fats and why they are not likely to cause you to add weight.</p>
<p><strong>Is it true that not all fats lead to adding weight?</strong></p>
<p>I know that last question in the paragraph above is more nagging than the rest. This is natural considering that fake nutritional experts have bombarded our ears with the music that any fat is bad for the body. The answer is yes, it all depends on how the particular fat molecule will be used or the metabolic pathway that it will take.</p>
<p>Let us begin by highlighting the metabolism of fats by the body. When you eat any fat in foods, their digestion begins in the stomach where the bile and other acids emulsify or collate the fat into little mounds that can be easily carried across the stomach cell membranes. Usually, only water soluble materials get transported across the cell membranes’, therefore the fatty materials must be converted into fatty acids which have an end that allows then to attach to special carrier molecules. For this matter, the short fatty acids have more ease at crossing the membranes and being transported into the blood and eventually to body cells for the cells use as energy source or for building new cells. This way, most short fatty acids are digested and utilized and not stored in the adipose tissues such as the skin or stomach lining. It is important to note that the choice to be short or long fatty acid is not made in the stomach, rather it is in the nature or source of fat.</p>
<p><strong>Which fats are not dangerous?</strong></p>
<p>Plant fats that are referred to essential fatty acids are generally not bad because they do not lead to increase in weight of the body. This means that if eaten in moderation, (everything in excess is dangerous including fruits!) these fats can only help growth and development and have no danger on man. Examples include olive oils which have very limited amounts of <em>Trans fats</em><strong>. </strong>These are the known bad fats that you find in most animal fats and a few plant fats.</p>
<p>The use of olive oil in diet is as old as the Roman Empire, some 300 to 400 years. The Romans were known to deep bread in olive oil and eat it without having to worry about adding weight. In fact, their army was one of the most organized and physically fit. I have met couple and single people who have lost weight greatly yet continue to enjoy their olive oil. You can make it more effective by mixing olive oil and vinegar which has good properties for weight management. These fats from other plants such as coconut have been found to be good because they contain more saturated fatty acids which are good for body development compared to the unsaturated fatty acids in animal foods.</p>
<p><strong>The risks associated with not taking essential oils:</strong></p>
<p>In the case of some essential fatty acids such as those from olive oil, there is often the danger of not providing the cells with raw materials for building some molecules required in the cells. An example is hormones which need some parts of these essential fatty acids or some big molecules such as cholesterol which is a precursor for hormones. By not eating these fats, the body is forced to go the long route of making the fatty acids from the carbohydrates sources and this may increase demand for carbohydrates. This increased demand for carbohydrates or energy would lead to more eating thus cause weight gain.</p>
<p><strong>Benefits of essential fatty acids in weight loss:</strong></p>
<p>Olive oil and virgin coconut oil contribute to weight loss provide medium chain fatty acids which prevent the body’s use of more difficult to digest long chain fatty acids. This is a competitive process where once the short and medium chain fatty acids are absorbed, they block the intake of the long chain and more dangerous long chain fatty.</p>
<p>These essential oils also have the benefit of containing antibacterial and antiviral properties or even protozoa inhibiting effects. This helps the body fight diseases and leaves you with a feel good effect. When you eat these good oils, you eliminate the desire for the bad fats that is present in corn oil or animal fat. They are best served by dipping in bread or serving as salad oils. Overcooking the essential oils may change their structure and make them weight adding.</p>
<p><strong>Conclusion:</strong></p>
<p>It is not every fat that you should avoid. Your body instead needs essential fatty acids for body functions. By taking just enough (not too much of it) you diminish the desire for the bad fats and therefore you end up cutting weight. Start giving your family or your self a fresh serving of olive oil and watch your weight cut down as you improve your immunity.</p>

<p>Researchers have done tests with subjects being blindfolded and given food to taste. It was noted by the subjects by not being able to first see the food they were about to eat, it made it less appetizing, and even, less tasty. Therefore, the appearance of food is just as important as taste, smell and texture.<span id="more-43"></span></p>
<p>One thing most people probably never think about is the color of their food. It probably does not even cross most consumers&#8217; minds they rarely eat anything that is naturally blue. According to the website <a href="http://www.colormatters.com/appmatters.html" target="_blank">Colormatters.com</a>, the color blue is actually an appetite suppressant. There could be many reasons for this. First, blue does not occur that much in nature. If we were to really dig down deep and get uber-scientific about this, it actually has something to do with the way the human eye sees the color blue. Another reason: since blue does not occur that much in nature, it leaves few choices of edible things that are blue. The website mentions blueberries and some rare blue-ish potatoes as two of the very few naturally blue food sources. Another thing, our ancestors tended to stay away from anything blue because apparently it was a color that could mean poison.</p>

<p>Therefore, humans, especially in the modern era, tend to stick to shades of reds, browns yellows, and oranges for anything palatable. Those are the colors that stir the appetite, subconsciously making the person think of warm, rich sauces and hearty meat. Many restaurants have taken note of this fact and decorated their venues accordingly. Lots of times restaurants have red or deep golden walls, which stimulates the hypothalamus that it is time to eat. When the food arrives warm and golden brown, our appetite really kicks in, and we are able to enjoy our food.</p>
<p>It is important to stress, however, that blueberries and other berries rich in vitamins are a healthy part of a balanced diet. Cupcakes with blue icing aside, there are some health benefits that cannot be ignored. Blueberries, blackberries and other natural foods that are dark in color are very important to most people&#8217;s health. Berries are especially important for antioxidants and immune system health.</p>
<p>When companies market food for public consumption, the pretty packaging is not entirely about catching the eye of the consumer. The psychology actually goes deeper. The marketing gurus know about color psychology as well, and they use it to their full advantage. Not only do they use bright reds and yellows on product packaging to grab buyers&#8217; attention, but the colors are also used to whet their appetites, leading to subconscious thoughts of the tastiness of the food within.</p>
<p>The next time you go to the grocery store or a dining establishment, take note of the decor, and of the presentation of the food. You will find in the grocery store many food products in red containers. Blue is used for print and the designs on the packaging more often than the container itself. When you go to a restaurant again, notice the color of the walls and menus, and observe the plate presentation. You might be very surprised what suddenly stands out, as far as what people eat, and how it is served to make it more appetizing.</p>

It appears that English-speaking  peoples have developed some decidedly unhealthy eating habits, exchanging  wholesome, fresh food for synthetic, over-processed pseudo-food. Some people  tend to snack at work, when they are sitting at a desk performing a monotonous  task, while others habitually &#8220;munch&#8221; while they are at home. People  who are trying to quit smoking have a tendency to snack in order to cope with  their desire for a cigarette. <span id="more-13"></span></p>
<p>JoEllen Marks, of <a href="http://www.curvygirlfitness.blogspot.com/">CcurvyGirlFitness.blogspot.com</a>, and<a href="http://curvygirlfitness.wordpress.com/">CurvyGirlFitness.com</a>discussed yesterday on her  vlog about sticking to the inside perimeter of the grocery store, where the  natural, unprocessed foods are. Today, she discusses using those fresh,  nutrient-enriched foods as means of smart snacking, thereby maintaining a  sensible diet regimen.</p>
<p>FitnessJo, as JoEllen calls herself on her  vlog, advocates healthy snacking as a way to maintain good health and weight.  Eating small, nutritious snacks throughout the day is proven to curb hunger,  preventing filling up on &#8220;junk&#8221; foods. JoEllen points out everyone  gets hungry throughout the day. Being hungry makes one more likely to make  hasty, poor decisions about what to eat. She gives an example of someone  sitting in an early-morning meeting hungry and with a plate of doughnuts right  in front of them. Being hungry with no alternative snack foods around would  make someone less likely to be able to resist the temptation to eat the fatty,  greasy food.</p>
<p>JoEllen advises keeping healthy snacks  everywhere to alleviate temptation. She suggests good snacks for snacking while  in the car, such as almonds, cranberries and apples. Boiled eggs can be kept in  a cooler in the car providing a filling, energizing snack. Keeping the  refrigerator full of healthy fruits and vegetables allows for plent<img src="http://chickandfit.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/clip_image004_0003.jpg" alt="" hspace="10" width="178" height="129" align="left" />y of choices and variety,  preventing boredom and munching out of habit. Traditional knowledge cautions  care with fruit high in sugar, less than ideal snacks, but better than the  over-processed synthetic snacks made with refined that can be bought from the  inner isles at the grocery store.</p>
<p>The old standards like celery and carrots  can be dipped in <em>low-fat </em>dips, along  with broccoli and cauliflower. The key is to use <em>low-fat</em> instead of <em>fat-free</em>,  because without fat there is no flavor. Sugar is usually used to replace the  flavor but has more calories than fat, which entirely defeats the original  purpose altogether. JoEllen suggests other alternatives to fatty snacks such as  sugar snap peas and low-fat cheese. Grapes and carrots are good sweet and  crunchy snacks, and are not high in natural sugar.</p>
<p>JoEllen promotes an active, healthy  lifestyle combined with smart, careful eating habits. According to her  five-meal-a-day plan, interspersing the five daily meals with light, nutritious  snacks will keep the hunger beast at bay. Following her recommended advice for  snacking and food choices will allow you to eat and be satisfied while still  following your diet regimen.</p>
