<p>We often hear about folic acid’s role in preventing birth defects, including spina bifida.  Women of child bearing age should take supplements with 400 mcg or higher of the vitamin <em>prior</em> to conception.  Taking it after conception is not as beneficial as before—but it is still recommended.  Women who have had children with neural tube defects should be taking even more folic acid to prevent problems in future offspring.</p>
<p>Studies have shown that folic acid is extremely beneficial for the brain.  When levels are low, stroke, osteoporosis, blood vessel disease, cervical cancer and macular degeneration become more likely because of a chemical released from the brain in high doses.  Sufficient amounts of folic acid can help with psychological problems like depression and schizophrenia.   There is research being done on folic acid’s role in autism as well.</p>
<p>Folic acid plays a great role in reducing one’s risk for developing certain cancers.  Eat enough folic acid to prevent colon, cervical, stomach and other digestive cancers.</p>
<p>There are many factors that can affect your body’s level of folic acid.  For example, if you’re  heavy smoker or drinker, your levels will decrease.  Therefore, a woman who was a smoker prior to becoming pregnant will need to take a higher dose of the vitamin.  Birth control can decrease levels, so women who take it are recommended to take folic acid.  Certain medications can also decrease levels, so talk to your doctor if you have any concerns.</p>
<p>There are plenty of foods to obtain folic acid from, including dark, leafy green vegetables, legumes and citrus fruits and juices.  Lean more on fresh fruit instead of juice.  Some breads and cereals are fortified with the vitamin, so check food labels!  Folic acid deficiencies can be treated with a supplement.  If you’re deficient in folic acid, there are a variety of symptoms you could experience including diarrhea, ulcers and a swollen tongue.  It can also go hand in hand with certain types of anemia.</p>
<p>You should always make sure that along with folic acid, you are getting the right amount of vitamin C and vitamin B12.  These vitamins work together to keep the body healthy.  If you’re low in one vitamin, you could be low in another, so keep your diet in check.</p>
<p>If you want to have healthy babies, healthy cells, a healthy brain…and, well, a healthy <em>everything</em>, then make sure you’re consuming enough folic acid.  Remember that women of child bearing age need more and should take a supplement to be sure they’re getting adequate amounts.  Eat a balanced diet that contains a variety of healthy foods.  Avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption if you are of child bearing age.  If you have concerns, see a doctor and never self-diagnose yourself with folic acid deficiency.</p>

<p>You probably don’t need me to tell you that fruit and vegetables are the main ingredients to a healthy, youthful skin. The reason for this is that they contain lots of vitamins and minerals that perform an antioxidant function. Antioxidants mop up reactions caused by free radicals, which are unstable molecules created by such things as stress, pollution and certain foods.</p>
<p>Free radicals sound like a new political party that we should all be voting for, but instead they’re electrochemically unbalanced chemicals which ultimately can be the cause of degenerative diseases such as cancer and heart disease, not to mention premature ageing (which is where your skin comes in). The main antioxidant vitamins are vitamins A, C and E together with the minerals selenium, manganese and zinc. Some B vitamins also have antioxidant properties together with some amino acids (building blocks for protein). Most of these important minerals can be found in a wholefood, fresh food diet.</p>
<p>Berries and fruits and vegetables with red, purple and blue colouring are particularly good because they’re stuffed with antioxidants and contain a group of flavonoids called anthocyanidins, thought to be much more powerful than vitamin E. Antioxidants sometimes work together. For example, vitamins C and E work together – vitamin C allows vitamin E to be recycled in the body so that it can carry on working longer.</p>
<p><strong>Water Your Face Daily<br />
</strong></p>
<p>Drinking pure, fresh water flushes toxins through your system and hydrates cells carrying essential nutrients to every part of your body. I probably didn’t need to tell you that either. Aim to drink about 2 litres (3.5 pints) daily. Don’t overdo it though or you could end up flushing minerals out of your system, especially if you’re gulping rather than sipping.</p>
<p>The other essential ingredient to healthy skin is fat. Not any old fat, but essential fatty acids (EFAs). One group of EFAs is especially important: omega-3. EFAs work as a kind of waterproofer because they stop fluids escaping from your body’s cells. In this way, your skin is kept plumped up and moisturised. Do an experiment – take a good quality fish oil supplement for three months (or flax seed if you’re vegetarian) and note the quality of skin on the back of your hands. You’ll notice that they’re better moisturised!</p>
<p>You should also decrease the amount of saturated and processed fats in your diet, as these compete with the good fats and make their job more difficult. In general, the fresher the food and the more unprocessed it is, the wider the vitamin and mineral range and the more good it will do your skin!</p>

<p>Popular high protein diets include Atkins, Sugar Busters, Zone, and Protein Power diets. These diets are harmful for many reasons. First, high protein diets lack essential nutrients that your body needs. They are high in foods like meat, eggs, and cheese, which are all high in saturated fat and cholesterol and low in fiber, vitamins, and minerals. They are low in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, which are high in unsaturated fat, fiber, vitamins, and minerals that your body needs.</p>
<h3 id="toc-2-cabbage-soup-diet">2. Cabbage Soup Diet</h3>
<p>This diet consists of eating soup made up of cabbage, tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, celery, carrots, onion soup mix, and other vegetables. The cabbage soup diet claims that by eating nothing but cabbage soup for one week, you will lose from ten to fifteen pounds. While eating nothing but cabbage soup for a week may result in significant weight loss, it is nothing more than water weight loss. It is physically impossible for your body to lose ten to fifteen pounds of fat in one week. Cabbage soup acts as a diuretic, which causes you to lose previously retained water.</p>
<h3 id="toc-3-no-fat-diet">3. No Fat Diet</h3>
<p>Completely fat free diets are bad for you. Dietary fat intake is necessary for the proper absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, such as vitamins A, D, E, and K. Additionally, essential fatty acids like fish and plant oils are essential for good health. Certain types of fat are good for your body. Polyunsaturated and monounsaturated are healthy fats that actually help lower cholesterol, reduce inflammation, increase heart strength, and soften skin and hair. In fact, most people who try to eliminate fat from their diet actually gain weight and decline in health.</p>

<p>Detoxifying and/or cleansing diets are extremely popular. They claim that are bodies are full of impurities that must be expelled in order for optimal health and weight loss. However, most detoxifying diets are nothing more than laxatives in disguise. These diets are very harmful on your body due to the lack of adequate nutrition and dehydration.</p>
<h3 id="toc-5-grapefruit-diet">5. Grapefruit Diet</h3>
<p>Following the grapefruit diet requires you to eat grapefruit before each meal and in between meals as a snack. Supposedly, grapefruit contains a certain chemical that boosts metabolism, fills you up, and promotes weight loss. All of these claims are false. Yes, grapefruit is healthy and good for you, but no, it is not a magical weight loss solution.</p>

And, while many still struggle to find a decent meal every day, those of us living in the developed world are inundated with food and invitations to overindulge on almost an hourly basis.<span id="more-860"></span></p>
<p>Fad diets have been around for decades now as a means to combat this problem, and many people have had varying success with everything from grapefruit juice to low fat to high protein diet strategies. However, all of these methods have one thing in common: eat less, weigh less.</p>
<p>It seems like such a simple solution. By taking in fewer calories, you can lose weight as your body taps into fat stores for fuel. In fact, a very popular study in the <em>New England Journal of Medicine</em> from 2009 even proved that variations in diet did not have a major impact on weight loss as much as simple calorie reduction.</p>
<p>Why is this, though? Think of it this way: calories are basically units of fuel that your body uses to function. These functions range from the blood your heart pumps to the energy and muscle use needed to walk across the room to the exertion of a tough workout on both the cardiovascular and musculoskeletal systems.</p>
<p>Food provides those calories and in its absence, the body will begin to break down fat in order to create the fuel it needs. On the flip side, any excess calories that you consume will be stored as fat for use in the event that you take in too little.</p>
<p>The more activity that you do, the more calories you will burn. However, the chances of having a significant impact on weight based on activity level alone are slim since many of us actually eat <em>more</em> on days when we are particularly active. Think about it, if you go for a long hike on a weekend, aren’t you more likely to have a big dinner after?</p>
<p>This is where caloric restriction (a fancy term for eating less) comes in handy. The USDA bases its daily recommendations on a 2,000 calorie diet which may or may not be accurate for your body type, age, and activity level. However, for argument’s sake, let’s assume that 2,000 is the magic number of calories that your body needs.</p>
<p>One pound of body fat is equivalent to 3,500 calories. Therefore, to lose one pound you need to consume 3,500 calories <em>less</em> than you burn during a period of time. This <em>can</em> be achieved through exercise, and if you have the time to dedicate to intense physical activity, you absolutely should do that. But let’s face it: most of us are fat because we <em>don’t </em>have that time.</p>
<p>What’s the other option? EAT LESS. If you need 2,000 calories a day and only eat 1,500, you will lose a pound a week. It’s that simple and you didn’t even need to buy a new pair of running shoes to do it.</p>

<p>In this post, we are reviewing the role of certain fats that we call essential fatty acids and why you should not miss them in your diet. We are also discussing the impact of not eating these fats and why they are not likely to cause you to add weight.</p>
<p><strong>Is it true that not all fats lead to adding weight?</strong></p>
<p>I know that last question in the paragraph above is more nagging than the rest. This is natural considering that fake nutritional experts have bombarded our ears with the music that any fat is bad for the body. The answer is yes, it all depends on how the particular fat molecule will be used or the metabolic pathway that it will take.</p>
<p>Let us begin by highlighting the metabolism of fats by the body. When you eat any fat in foods, their digestion begins in the stomach where the bile and other acids emulsify or collate the fat into little mounds that can be easily carried across the stomach cell membranes. Usually, only water soluble materials get transported across the cell membranes’, therefore the fatty materials must be converted into fatty acids which have an end that allows then to attach to special carrier molecules. For this matter, the short fatty acids have more ease at crossing the membranes and being transported into the blood and eventually to body cells for the cells use as energy source or for building new cells. This way, most short fatty acids are digested and utilized and not stored in the adipose tissues such as the skin or stomach lining. It is important to note that the choice to be short or long fatty acid is not made in the stomach, rather it is in the nature or source of fat.</p>
<p><strong>Which fats are not dangerous?</strong></p>
<p>Plant fats that are referred to essential fatty acids are generally not bad because they do not lead to increase in weight of the body. This means that if eaten in moderation, (everything in excess is dangerous including fruits!) these fats can only help growth and development and have no danger on man. Examples include olive oils which have very limited amounts of <em>Trans fats</em><strong>. </strong>These are the known bad fats that you find in most animal fats and a few plant fats.</p>
<p>The use of olive oil in diet is as old as the Roman Empire, some 300 to 400 years. The Romans were known to deep bread in olive oil and eat it without having to worry about adding weight. In fact, their army was one of the most organized and physically fit. I have met couple and single people who have lost weight greatly yet continue to enjoy their olive oil. You can make it more effective by mixing olive oil and vinegar which has good properties for weight management. These fats from other plants such as coconut have been found to be good because they contain more saturated fatty acids which are good for body development compared to the unsaturated fatty acids in animal foods.</p>
<p><strong>The risks associated with not taking essential oils:</strong></p>
<p>In the case of some essential fatty acids such as those from olive oil, there is often the danger of not providing the cells with raw materials for building some molecules required in the cells. An example is hormones which need some parts of these essential fatty acids or some big molecules such as cholesterol which is a precursor for hormones. By not eating these fats, the body is forced to go the long route of making the fatty acids from the carbohydrates sources and this may increase demand for carbohydrates. This increased demand for carbohydrates or energy would lead to more eating thus cause weight gain.</p>
<p><strong>Benefits of essential fatty acids in weight loss:</strong></p>
<p>Olive oil and virgin coconut oil contribute to weight loss provide medium chain fatty acids which prevent the body’s use of more difficult to digest long chain fatty acids. This is a competitive process where once the short and medium chain fatty acids are absorbed, they block the intake of the long chain and more dangerous long chain fatty.</p>
<p>These essential oils also have the benefit of containing antibacterial and antiviral properties or even protozoa inhibiting effects. This helps the body fight diseases and leaves you with a feel good effect. When you eat these good oils, you eliminate the desire for the bad fats that is present in corn oil or animal fat. They are best served by dipping in bread or serving as salad oils. Overcooking the essential oils may change their structure and make them weight adding.</p>
<p><strong>Conclusion:</strong></p>
<p>It is not every fat that you should avoid. Your body instead needs essential fatty acids for body functions. By taking just enough (not too much of it) you diminish the desire for the bad fats and therefore you end up cutting weight. Start giving your family or your self a fresh serving of olive oil and watch your weight cut down as you improve your immunity.</p>

Health care spending for obese adults is about 50% higher than for adults at a normal or slightly heavier than normal weight!</p>
<p>Unfortunately, when you head to the grocery store, it can seem like you can’t afford to eat healthy in order to maintain a healthy, cost-efficient weight.<span id="more-795"></span></p>
<p>It’s true that processed foods that lack nutrition are often a lot cheaper than unprocessed foods. However, anyone can eat well on a budget with the right outlook and techniques. Here are some ways you can eat healthy foods without spending a fortune on groceries:</p>
<p><strong>1. Cook at home from scratch</strong>. Processed foods are cheap because they’re full of cheap, non-nutritional fillers and are made in a factory. Foods that aren’t full of those fillers – think healthy frozen meals, canned soups without the added sodium, etc. – can be good for you, but they’re some of the most expensive out there. Instead of resorting to healthy frozen meals because you feel you don’t have time to cook, start making cooking at home from scratch a bigger priority in your life.</p>
<p>One way to make this easier is to fix healthy meals ahead of time and freeze them. Things like turkey loaf (as opposed to regular meatloaf), shredded chicken, casseroles, and soups can be put into individual or family-sized containers and saved for later. Also, try out quick, healthy recipes like spaghetti with homemade sauce and chicken noodle soup. Once you’ve made them a few times, they’ll be super easy to throw together on a busy weeknight.</p>
<p><strong>2. Steer clear of specialty health foods</strong>, unless you have a reason for eating them. If you’re really on a budget, you probably don’t want to shop at Whole Foods Market or try the latest health innovations. Even foods like soy milks and almond milk as opposed to regular skim milk can add to your grocery bill.</p>
<p>Unless you have a reason to eat specialty health foods, just be reasonable in your grocery shopping. Chances are likely that your grandparents lived healthy, full lives without the help of special foods. You can, too!</p>
<p><strong>3. Load up on whole grains</strong>. Grains like brown rice and whole-wheat pasta are super cheap, especially if you can find them at a discount grocery store or buy them in bulk. They keep practically forever, and they make a versatile base for all sorts of meals. Learn to use different recipes that can be served over rice and pasta, and experiment with other types of grains, such as quinoa and oats.</p>
<p>While your entire diet shouldn’t be based on grains, it’s a good idea to include them with every meal. They’re filling, low in fat, and deliciously affordable!</p>
<p><strong>4. Buy meat when it’s on sale</strong>. One of the best ways to save on your entire healthy grocery bill is to save on the meat. This is what makes up the bulk of the cost of most meals, after all. Meat is very resource-intensive, so it’s no surprise that it costs so much more than other types of food!</p>
<p>Cutting back on meat is a good idea for many people health-wise, but it can also be a good way to save. If you’re already comfortable with your level of meat consumption, then you can save by buying it in bulk when it’s on sale. The goal here is to try to buy meat for under $2 a pound. How possible this is will depend largely on where you’re from and where you’re shopping!</p>
<p>If you do find a great deal on meat, though, you can pick up enough for a few meals. Freeze it either unprepared or prepared in a basic way. For instance, you can boil and shred chicken before freezing it, and it’ll be versatile enough for tons of recipes. Another option is to brown beef with onions and garlic and freeze it. You can use it in all sorts of quick recipes.</p>
<p>The great part about preparing beef this way, too, is that you can get the cheaper, higher-fat ground beef. Just drain it really well after you cook it, and you’ll get rid of most of the excess fat!</p>
<p><strong>5. Buy fruits and vegetables in season</strong>, and be choosy about your organics. This is really two tips rolled into one!</p>
<p>Buying your produce in season is cheaper and healthier. More and more studies are showing that the nutrients in fresh foods break down so quickly that the closer you are to the produce’s source, the more nutritious your food will be. Plus, when you’re buying seasonal, local produce, you aren’t paying extra for shipping costs, so you get healthier food on the cheap.</p>
<p>While many diet books recommend you only ever eat organics, this just isn’t possible for some people. Do some research to see which non-organic produce absorbs the most pesticides, and try to buy those things in organic. Don’t go overboard, though. Produce like oranges and bananas, for instance, don’t take in lots of pesticides because of their thick skins that we peel of before we eat them!</p>

<p>Often times these diets are a bit of a laugh, but one thing that never changes is our need to eat healthy. Most people wake up exhausted every morning to the sound of their alarm clock.<span id="more-791"></span></p>
<p>They rush to get ready, grab some coffee and head off to work. They didn’t have time to pack a lunch so they grab some fast food, with a nice big soft drink to wash everything down. They come home, eat a big dinner maybe enjoy some wine or beer.</p>
<p>Then after dinner they watch TV for three hours so that they can wind down from all of the caffeine, and before they know its midnight. Leno is over so it’s time to hit the sack. 6:30 rolls around and it’s time to do it all over again. No wonder so many Americans are overweight and feel so terrible. Even if you aren’t extremely unhealthy or don’t fit the stereotypical profile here are a few reasons why it’s a good idea to <a href="http://hcgdropsdiet.com/">eat healthy</a>:</p>
<p><strong>1. </strong><strong>Fit Into More Clothes-</strong> Okay so this may be superficial but it feels good to be comfortable in your clothes and not worry about how your love handles are on display.</p>
<p><strong>2. </strong><strong>Reduce Pain-</strong> By eating healthy and dropping some weight you can reduce lower back pain and unnecessary stress on joints.</p>
<p><strong>3. </strong><strong>Do the Activities that you Want-</strong> A lot of people would love to go swimming with their friends if only they felt more comfortable with how they looked.</p>
<p><strong>4. </strong><strong>Live Longer-</strong> The second leading cause of preventable death is obesity. Don’t become a statistic.</p>
<p><strong>5. </strong><strong>Avoid Sickness-</strong> Healthy food equals healthier you!</p>
<p><strong>6. </strong><strong>Be Smarter-</strong> Eating healthy helps you think and recall information better.</p>
<p><strong>7. </strong><strong>Find More Confidence-</strong> Setting and achieving goals helps you to be more confident in your own abilities.</p>
<p><strong>8. </strong><strong>More Energy-</strong> If you eat right and exercise you’ll have more energy to do the things you want/need to do.</p>
<p><strong>9. </strong><strong>Improve your Heart Health-</strong> Healthy food will help your heart to function better and reduce your risk of heart attack.</p>
<p><strong>10. Speed up your Metabolism</strong>- A good diet will help you to speed up the rate at which you break down food, meaning more weight loss!</p>
<p>Even those who want to lose weight without exercise will need to eat healthy. For example the HCG drops diet can help you lose a pound of fat a day and there is no need to exercise. A page rank of n/a may mean that the site is best avoided – the ‘n/a’ usually means that the site is very new. While this has no bearing on whether or not the site is genuine, the ‘n/a’ means there is no evidence to say that it <em>is</em> genuine – so it is worth steering clear of such sites for the time being.</p>
<p>However, page ranks of 1 and above mean that Google has to an extent ‘approved’ the site, meaning that it is likely to be a more trustworthy and reliable source of information.</p>
<p>It’s also important to ensure that the website offers a place for users to submit their acai berry reviews. If no such facility is available, it is almost a given that the reviews placed on the site will not be genuine, and the site should be avoided.</p>
