Losing Weight by Chewing a Gum

Believe it or not but chewing a sugar-free gum does make you lose weight (but please don’t try losing Weight loss chewing gum weight that way!)! The effect is based on the 2 main factors:

  1. Chewing helps to better digest the food. Saliva breaks the food down so that the nutrients are absorbed while they are still in the mouth. That’s the very first step in the digestive process which boosts your body metabolic processes.
  2. Sorbitol, used as a sweetener in chewing gum and sugar-free sweets, acts as a laxative.

In fact, chewing a sugar-free gum too often can be dangerous: it may lead to severe weight loss , doctors say.

Be warned that:

  • A chewing gum can cause diarrhea and stomach ache.
  • Once you stop chewing a gum, you’ll put on the weight again.

  • This is good news for my half a pack a day habit. However, I do think all that chomping doesn't help my jaw and I get the stomachache side effect as well.
