It’s Never Too Late To Exercise Your Body And Mind

It’s never too late to become as fit as possible. As you get older you want to ensure you remain active to help improve your chances of being mobile in the latter stages of your life. Maybe you don’t want to lift heavy weight. You don’t have to. You also don’t have to get up every morning and go for a 5-mile run. If your looking for way to get fit without doing anything too extreme there are lots of ways.

The most popular things you could try are meditation and yoga. Not only will this help you achieve physical fitness, but it will also exercise your mind. The two types of training go hand in hand. The best part is: it’s never too late to start. Even with yoga you can choose a style which doesn’t require you to be a 20-year old girl.

Why meditation is great

Imagine a time when you have been stressed. When it’s gotten so much that your head starts to hurt. Well meditation is the complete opposite. Meditation is to be completely relaxed. As relaxed as your mind can possibly be. It’s one of the best feelings in the world when you are completely at ease.

There are a huge amount of health benefits including better circulation, reduced risk of heart disease, and relief from stress and anxiety. The best part is that you can do it anywhere, at any time of the day. You also need no equipment but yourself.

How do you do it?

Meditation means you cancel out any unwanted thoughts. You remain completely focused on something like a thought or a feeling. First you need to make sure you are relaxed and sitting down on the floor. Lie if you feel more comfortable.

To use breathe as an example, you should focus on the breathe and watch it as it enters and exits your body. Channel in on the feeling as it goes down your throat. As you do this you must try to ignore any thoughts that enter your mind. When they do, let them pass and go back to focusing on the breathe. Do this for about 5 minutes and slowly build up the time each day.

Yoga is meditation for the body

Yoga is the art of creating balance in the body by using strength and flexibility. In yoga you perform certain postures and poses which create the balance. If you’ve never done yoga before it might take a little getting used to. Although you don’t need to be flexible to start, some of the more advanced poses require a certain degree of flexibility.

How to get started

Yoga is something you really need to see to get a grasp of. This doesn’t mean you need to join a class, though that would obviously be very beneficial. If you don’t want to venture outside you can always get a DVD and learn from the comfort of your living room.

Before you start you should have a yoga mat and some loose fitting clothing to wear. Getting into certain poses is hard enough without tight clothes stopping you from achieving your maximum flexibility. Make sure you haven’t just ate any food because it won’t be comfortable. Just slowly test the waters by watching your DVD and copying what they do. You should pick it up in no time.
