Can You Spot A Fad Diet?

Mar22

fad dietWith obesity expected to affect more than 50 percent of the population in the next forty years, the time of ‘celebrity diets’ and ‘rapid weight loss schemes’ has become more popular than ever before. From the cabbage soup diet to the Quantum Wellness to the Factor 5 diet, every single one of these weight loss diet fads all claim to promote almost immediate weight loss and increased metabolic activity.

Can they really help you to lose weight – and keep it off?

No… Aside from helping you to witness quick water weight loss, ninety percent of slimmer’s have experienced minute weight loss of just 1-3 pounds before hitting a plateau.

More disconcertingly, once slimmers stopped eating these celebrity fad meals they quickly regained all lost weight – and more.

What are the long term implications of these programs?

Whilst  many can help you to experience almost instant weight loss, most cannot be used for more than a week

Limiting the amount of key nutrients needed to ensure your organs are working at optimal levels, many involve reducing your calorie intake to below 1,000 calories a day – or less – over half your recommended daily allowance.

Supported by strict exercise routines and constant calorie checking, many of these diet fads also run the complication of causing you to feel weak, tired, unable to think straight and generally unable to function properly.

How can you spot them?

Fad diets are easier to spot than you might imagine. Promoting a ‘quick fix’ solution to your body concerns, you can often tell a weight loss diet fad by their:

  • Too good to be true claims
  • Lack of clinical trials or proof of effectiveness
  • Elimination of one or more of the five daily food groups
  • Recommendations from studies without reviews from other researchers

When choosing a diet program, it is essential to deeply analyze studies of the program first before including them into your eating habits. If there is no medical evidence that proves quality, sustainable weight loss is possible, steer well clear.
