5 Weight Loss Diets That are Proven to be Harmful

While there are many popular fad weight-loss diets out there, most are just exaggerated and do not warrant any long term weight loss. In fact, many fad weight-loss diets have actually been proven harmful to your body.

1. High Protein Diet

Popular high protein diets include Atkins, Sugar Busters, Zone, and Protein Power diets. These diets are harmful for many reasons. First, high protein diets lack essential nutrients that your body needs. They are high in foods like meat, eggs, and cheese, which are all high in saturated fat and cholesterol and low in fiber, vitamins, and minerals. They are low in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, which are high in unsaturated fat, fiber, vitamins, and minerals that your body needs.

2. Cabbage Soup Diet

This diet consists of eating soup made up of cabbage, tomatoes, onions, mushrooms, celery, carrots, onion soup mix, and other vegetables. The cabbage soup diet claims that by eating nothing but cabbage soup for one week, you will lose from ten to fifteen pounds. While eating nothing but cabbage soup for a week may result in significant weight loss, it is nothing more than water weight loss. It is physically impossible for your body to lose ten to fifteen pounds of fat in one week. Cabbage soup acts as a diuretic, which causes you to lose previously retained water.

3. No Fat Diet

Completely fat free diets are bad for you. Dietary fat intake is necessary for the proper absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, such as vitamins A, D, E, and K. Additionally, essential fatty acids like fish and plant oils are essential for good health. Certain types of fat are good for your body. Polyunsaturated and monounsaturated are healthy fats that actually help lower cholesterol, reduce inflammation, increase heart strength, and soften skin and hair. In fact, most people who try to eliminate fat from their diet actually gain weight and decline in health.

4. Detoxifying Diet

Detoxifying and/or cleansing diets are extremely popular. They claim that are bodies are full of impurities that must be expelled in order for optimal health and weight loss. However, most detoxifying diets are nothing more than laxatives in disguise. These diets are very harmful on your body due to the lack of adequate nutrition and dehydration.

5. Grapefruit Diet

Following the grapefruit diet requires you to eat grapefruit before each meal and in between meals as a snack. Supposedly, grapefruit contains a certain chemical that boosts metabolism, fills you up, and promotes weight loss. All of these claims are false. Yes, grapefruit is healthy and good for you, but no, it is not a magical weight loss solution.

    If these are harmful diet, what's with those people who are doing these things? I wonder what happened to them and if they experienced the bad effects of these diets.

    Dieting is should be must in the life because dieting is the best for good health. Some diets is the good for weight loss ad fat loss like,vegetarian foods,fresh fruits and energy drinks .But
    i like the exercises for weight loss.
