10 Fat Fighting Superfoods

If you love to eat, but you are trying to lose weight, consider adding these weight loss superfoods to your diet. They give you more nutritional bang for the buck, raise your metabolism, or burn more calories to digest than consumed.

A well-rounded, healthy diet shouldn’t focus on just a few foods. However, to lose fat, the addition of some of these superfoods may help you eat more and lose weight safely. Consider taking them as snacks or sides to main meals.

1. Plain popcorn. Popcorn popped without cooking oil and served without butter is a good snack that provides necessary fiber in your diet. It’s better than high calorie, high fat snacks like potato chips.

2. Potatoes. Potatoes, though starchy, can be a good addition to the diet. They provide some fiber and fill you up. To get the benefit, don’t cook them in oil or add butter to them. Steam them and top them with mustard, cottage cheese or nonfat yogurt

3. Hot peppers. Peppers are low in calories and add flavor to a meal. Reports say they may even raise your metabolism for a while after eating them. They are a negative calorie food, so eat them freely.

4. Oatmeal. If all of the talk about oatmeal is true, it is a good superfood for the circulatory system and for lowering cholesterol. The best thing is, it is filling and keeps you satisfied for hours. Additionally, it is high in fiber, so not all of the calories are absorbed.

5. Yogurt. For the few calories it has, yogurt provides a good amount of nutrition. To get the most out of it, eat yogurt that has live cultures and no added sugar. Use it as a replacement for sour cream and mayonnaise, or make salad dressing out of it. It is a high protein food, especially Greek yogurt.

6. The cabbage family. Cabbage is a negative calorie food that provides antioxidants and fiber. It’s a good addition to soups and salads. In the same family are broccoli and cauliflower, which make great raw snacks.

7. Grapefruit. Grapefruit provides vitamin C. It is a negative calorie food. Other fruits that are negative calorie foods include papayas and cranberries.

8. Chicken. Chicken is high in protein, and if eaten without the skin, low in fat and calories. It is a perfect complement to salads, stir-fries, soups and casseroles.

9. Avocado. Though avocado is a bit higher in calories than some superfoods, it is an excellent trade off. The high fiber takes care of some of the calories, but the most important thing is the good oils it provides for a healthy diet.

10. Olive oil. Another great food that is necessary for the body, olive oil provides the good oils that fight bad cholesterol and heart disease. Use it in salad dressing and for stir-fry.

This is not a complete list of the perfect superfoods, but it is a good start. Make these foods a part of your diet and use them to replace some of the unhealthy foods you are eating. They should help you lose fat and feel better each day.
